Week 3, Day 3
Welcome back to Week 3 of your externship! Last week, best week! Today we have three synchronous events: our guest speaker Kam Gardner, our discussion on “Concussion”, and exit interviews.
Kam C. Gardner, MS, CCC-SLP, has proudly been a speech language pathologist for 20 years. Kam has worked in an acute inpatient rehabilitation in Northern California after completing her internship 2001. Currently, Kam treats outpatients who have cognitive impairments secondary to a brain injury, cerebral vascular accident, neurosurgery or a neurological disease. Kam’s daily work schedule also includes treating patients with swallowing and voice disorders. Kam is looking forward to sharing her extensive knowledge about mild cognitive impairment secondary to a brain injury with interns and other professionals.

Work through this curriculum for today:
This curriculum transitions us away from sports related concussions and into mental health/stigmas of concussions. From here, we will pivot to racial disparities in concussions/concussion care, as well as to concussions caused by partner violence.
Read CA webpage on The Invisible Injury.
Read CA webpage on Mental Health.
