Week 3 Day 1
Happy third and final week! This week is an exciting mix of guest speakers and finalizing/presenting your projects. We have a lighter curriculum this week and have standardized the meeting schedule as much as possible. Please let us know if you have any more feedback going forward!
We’re excited to welcome two more expert guest speakers this week! We’ll also be finishing Shaken Brain and having a discussion on it. You’ll finish your projects and prepare your presentations for our 2 part showcase on Thursday and Friday. We will also be conducting short exit interviews with each of you individually to collect feedback and reflect on your experience.
Meetings (Zoom link in Slack)
We’ll start our day with our whole group check-in at 10 am PST.
At 1 pm PST, we welcome our first expert guest speaker of the week, Dr. Nick Reed. Be prepared to engage and ask questions, you all have been excellent at this so far, let’s keep the same energy as we head into the last week.
Tomorrow, we will have another expert guest speaker: Dr. Elizabeth Sandel at 1 pm PST. Review Monday’s curriculum as it pertains to this guest speaker.
Exit interviews
Conor/your PM will conduct exit interviews in 15-minute slots between 10 am and 11 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Tuesday: Nancy’s subcohort completes exit interviews. Web designer subcohort check-in.
Wednesday: Science writers have subcohort check-in’s at 10 am PST. Wed designers complete exit interviews.
Thursday: Claire’s subcohort completes exit interviews.
There are two tasks to do today:
Complete the curriculum to prepare for the guest speaker and finish drafting your project.
Project-Related Reminders for Today:
Check-in with your partner to see how drafting is going. Use your PMs and fellow science writers as resources to answer questions and address obstacles you encounter. Think about reaching out to a different project group to peer review your draft once you both have completed rough drafts.
Curriculum for Today

Chapter 8 Shaken Brain
Guest Speaker Preparation Curriculum (~25 min)
(~20 min) Check out SCHOOLFirst, a Canadian concussion resource for students and educators, created in part by the Oak Concussion lab (headed by this week’s guest speaker Dr. Nick Reed). Explore both the content of the resources themselves and how they’re designed/presented. This is a great opportunity to think about how educational material is conveyed in advance of hearing from Dr. Reed and starting on your own projects.
This page of resources is also good to check out (from the site): https://schoolfirstconcussion.ca/downloads-and-other-resources/
