Week 3, Day 1
Happy final week of your internship!! We’re so grateful that you chose to spend three weeks of your winter break with us. Conor and Malayka are deeply grateful to all of you and especially to Nancy and Claire for keeping the program running smoothly for the back half of last week. We’re all thrilled to help you get your projects finalized this week.
Also this week, we’ll be having more expert guest speakers, finishing Shaken Brain and having our final discussion of the internship on it, and we’ll host our End-of-Internship showcase on Thursday and Friday. Please feel free to invite any friends, family, or mentors to the showcases (which will be at the standard Zoom link).
Meetings (Zoom link in Slack)
Today we will have our last Monday check-in meeting at 10 am PST (which will include a discussion of how to prepare for the Showcase), as well as another expert guest speaker: Nick Reed at 1 pm PST
There are two Tasks to do today:
Thank you to Dr. Eve Valera
Sign this thank you note for Dr. Valera to thank her for coming to talk with us yesterday.

sign up for your end-of-internship showcase time slot here.
Sign up for your exit interview slot here as well. Nancy’s subcohort will sign up for Monday, Web Designers and PMs will sign up for Tuesday, and Claire’s subcohort will sign up for Wednesday.
Project-Related Reminders for Today:
Check in with your partner to see how drafting is going. Use your PM’s and fellow science writers as resources to answer questions and address obstacles you encounter. Think about reaching out to a different project group to peer review your draft once you both have completed rough drafts.
You’ve received an invite to Squarespace. If you haven’t already, make a new blank page (in the “unlinked” section and start playing around to get a feel for it.
Conor and Malayka will meet with all the projects today to check in.
Curriculum for Today
For Everyone
Chapter 8 Shaken Brain
Nota bene: We are asking you to be done with the book by Tuesday afternoon, since our guest speaker will be the author, and we are having a Shaken Brain discussion on Wednesday.
Guest Speaker Curriculum (~25 min)
(~20 min) Check out SCHOOLFirst, a Canadian concussion resource for students and educators, created in part by the Oak Concussion lab (headed by this week’s guest speaker Dr. Nick Reed). Explore both the content of the resources themselves and how they’re designed/presented. This is a great opportunity to think about how educational material is conveyed in advance of hearing from Dr. Reed and starting on your own projects.
This page of resources is also good to check out (from the site): https://schoolfirstconcussion.ca/downloads-and-other-resources/
