Week 3, Day 1
Welcome to the final week of your Externship! We’ve so enjoyed having you all become a part of our community this December. On Monday, you’ll join us for your second Community Meeting, where you’ll tell our volunteers about the work you’ve been doing the past two weeks and hear what our organization has been up to beyond your externship program. On Wednesday, you’ll hear from expert guest speaker Dr. Alexandra Clark, a TBI Polytrauma Rehabilitation and Neuropsychology Fellow at the San Diego Veterans Hospital/University of California San Diego. On Friday, you’ll have an opportunity to showcase what you’ve learned and done during your externship to an audience of your peers, friends, and (hopefully) some professionals affiliated with our organization.
There are three tasks to do today:
If you have not already please write a thank you to Dr. Sandel in this google doc. Please get this done as soon as possible today.
End-of-Internship Showcase and Exit Interview Sign-ups:
Begin thinking about what questions you may want to ask Dr. Clark
Educational Resources:
Read chapter 8 of Shaken Brain: “Close to Home” (p. 193-213)
Read this study from Dr. Clark, “Repetitive mTBI is associated with age-related reductions in cerebral blood flow but not cortical thickness” - Dr. Clark will be speaking about both her research and her clinical work at the VA.
Also read through her page on our website to familiarize yourself with her career.
