Week 2, Day 4

Welcome to Week 2! We’ll still be bringing you educational materials and resources so you can continue to learn about mTBI, this week we’ll be transitioning to a heavier focus on content creation. On Monday you’ll begin writing your first Newsletter synopses, hear from PM&R doctor and author Dr. Elizabeth Sandel, and learn tips and tricks of Squarespace from Malayka.

There are two tasks to do today:

  • Write a thank you note to Dr. Sandel for speaking with us and taking the time to add insight into our projects. This is the google doc that we will be compiling the thank you’s in.

  • We will be discussing the film “Concussion” tomorrow. Instead of a list of specific questions we are going to be having more of an open discussion on your thoughts from the film. So as you watch the film today we would like you to think about these four areas.

    • The NFL and their response to CTE and player safety

    • How concussions are/were viewed by society

    • How this film may impact the views by society on concussions

    • CTE itself and the science behind it

Educational Resources:

1.Watch the 2015 film Concussion, with Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

  • The film is on Amazon Prime, plus a few other places on the internet. We will reimburse you for the cost of watching the film if you don’t have an Amazon Prime subscription — just DM Malayka or Conor on Slack.

2. Read chapter 7 of Shaken Brain, “Money Talks” (p. 170-190)

3. Watch this podcast from Concussion Corner about two PTs who use vestibular-ocular therapy in their practice.
