Week 1, Day 5
Welcome to the first Friday of your externship with Concussion Alliance! We are excited to work with you and to get to know you better. Thank you for joining us.
We are looking forward to helping you get up to speed on your concussion knowledge and then up and running on your projects this week. You’ll have concussion curriculum every day, and we’ll spend time on remote teamwork and shared learning. You’ll also start doing background research on your projects and learn about our process in preparation for writing for the newsletter next week.
We hope you enjoyed hearing from Dan Fogarty yesterday. Our discussion on Shaken Brain is today at 11am PST.
There is one task to do today
Prepare for Monday’s Guest Speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Sandel
Read Dr. Sandel’s bio on her Concussion Alliance advisory board member page
Take 5-10 minutes to peruse Dr. Sandel’s Website
Formulate 1-2 questions to ask Dr. Sandel
Educational Resources:
1. Newsletter prep: Galen Moller Writing Module
Today you’ll continue preparing to write for the newsletter next week. This summer, leadership team members Julian Szieff and Galen Moller created educational modules to help get new writers up to speed with our methodology and style. Galen has worked previously as the executive editor of our newsletter, and has extensive experience as a writer and editor. Her module focuses on writing and editing for our specific mix of audiences and provides valuable insights on important do’s and don’ts.
2. Newsletter Prep: reading prior newsletters
After watching Galen’s presentation, we’d like you to critically read two newsletters, keeping the principles he outlines in mind.
This newsletter, which is the final newsletter written by our summer interns on August 20th
This newsletter, which was written by our volunteer writers on September 3rd
