Week 1, Day 3

We’re halfway through the week! Thank you all for participating in Dan’s talk yesterday. Today we’ll be discussing the 5th International Consensus on Concussion in Sport, and playing two truths and a lie!

There are four Tasks to do today:

Slack

  • Once you have a Concussion Alliance email and you’ve reached out to me with it, I’ll send you a slack invitation

  • Sign into slack and create your profile there! Slack will be the primary form of non-Zoom communication in the internship

Internship Learning Plan

  • Some of you will have an Internship Learning Plan that you’ve been given by your school to complete and have your supervisor sign. Even if your school hasn’t provided a learning plan, we think that the structure of intentionally setting learning goals will help you make the best of your internship. Schedule a 15-minute meeting with your PM intern for sometime this week to plan out your learning goals. If you don’t have a plan from your school, your PM will provide you with a template that we’ve created.

Thank-You to Dan Fogarty

  • Take a moment to share your thanks to yesterday’s guest speaker, Dan Fogarty, in the document linked above! Write a short message to Dan (preferably signed with your first name), and once we have thank-yous from everyone we’ll send the document on to him.

  • If you have any questions for Dan or want to reach out to him, you can reach him by email at: dfoges422@gmail.com

Two Truths & A Lie pt. 1

  • We thought that playing two truths and a lie would be a fun way to get to know one another better. Because we have such a big cohort and other things happening both today and tomorrow, we’ll be splitting into two groups and finishing off Wednesday and Thursday with one group each day.

  • Going today:

    • Elizabeth Zhao, Julia Brzac, Lori Mae Yvette Calibuso Acob, Nathan Campbell, Wyatt Hill, Christine Hau, Emma Chin, Chelsea Ryan, Melissa Brown

    • If you see your name listed above, take a few minutes today to think about which two truths you want to share and which lie you want to try and fool us with this afternoon!

Work through this curriculum for today:

  1. Read Chapter 1 of “Shaken Brain: The Science, Treatment, and Care of Concussion”

  2. Spend some time (~30 minutes) perusing the CrashCourse Concussion Story Wall to hear personal stories from people whose lives have been touched by concussion

    • Click “Story Wall” to get a searchable database where you can find stories categorized by Cause of Injury, Symptoms, and more

  3. Newsletter prep: Julian Szieff Newsletter Science Writing Module, reading, processing, and synopsizing research for newsletters.
