Week 2, Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the second week with us! We enjoyed discussing all ideas from yesterday’s project start-up meetings and are excited to teach you accessible writing skills through our Newsletter Workshop, and have our first discussion on Shaken Brain this week!

Our synchronous meeting today is our expert guest speaker Dr. Stephen Broglio at 10:00 am PT | 12:00 pm CT | 1:00 pm ET. 

On Wednesday, we will have our Discussion on Shaken Brain Chapters 1-4 at at 10:00 am PT | 12:00 pm CT | 1:00 pm ET and the Newsletter Writing Workshop at 1:00 pm PT | 3:00 pm CT | 4:00 pm ET.

As a reminder, Thursday is the 4th of July, so there will not be any synchronous meetings. We will regroup with a Social Hour on Friday at at 10:00 am PT | 12:00 pm CT | 1:00 pm ET. 

Start-of-day Procedure

  1. Check Slack for new messages

  2. Check the schedule in #weekly-schedules on Slack, on the week page in this portal

  3. Check the ‘day page’ (like this one) for tasks & content

  4. Check your project resource Google doc in your project folder for new resources

  5. Check in with your PM on Slack

  6. Check in with your project partner(s) on Slack


Instructions for Synopsis Writing Practice:

  • Read the example newsletters to understand the structure, key details, and the style for the synopses.

  • Read the original study and the supplementary documents (Option 1 or Option 2).

  • Read the style guide posted in the newsletter curriculum. This will be helpful and serve as a blueprint for writing the synopsis.

  • Compose a 150-250 word synopsis of the study

* Don’t worry about getting everything right on this practice. We are intentionally giving you guys lots of freedom, so enjoy writing this practice synopsis!

  • Prepare for our discussion on the first 4 chapters of Shaken Brain. The questions to the discussion can be accessed here. We had a great discussion session last Friday and are looking forward to hearing your thoughts again on Wednesday!
