Week 2, Day 1

Welcome to the start of the second week with us! We’re excited to get started on projects with you, teach you accessible writing skills through our Newsletter Workshop, and have our first discussion on Shaken Brain!

Our first synchronous meeting this week is our Start of the Week Check-in on Monday, at 10:00 am PT | 12:00 pm CT | 1:00 pm ET. 

We also have our Project Start-Up Meetings Today at 12:00 pm PT | 2:00 pm CT | 3:00 pm ET. Each project group will spend 30 minutes with Conor, Malayka, and their PM to review their Project Initiation & Planning document and get a chance to ask questions about their project.

Start-of-day Procedure

  1. Check Slack for new messages

  2. Check the schedule in #weekly-schedules on Slack, on the week page in this portal

  3. Check the ‘day page’ (like this one) for tasks & content

  4. Check your project resource Google doc in your project folder for new resources

  5. Check in with your PM on Slack

  6. Check in with your project partner(s) on Slack

  • Geriatric Concussion/Concussion in Older Adults: Sam Gossard and Gabriel Marotti

  • Concussion Among Adolescents: Jeffrey Kong and Zoe Marquis

  • Yoga, Mindfulness, and Meditation for Concussion: Ella Webster and Sneha Bansal


There are 3 (new) tasks to do today:

  • (Science Writers): Be on the lookout for your dedicated time slot for our project start-up meeting with your PM! These will take place between 12PM and 2PM.

  • Prepare questions for Expert Guest Speaker Dr. Stephen Broglio

  • Prepare for our discussion on the first 4 chapters of Shaken Brain by reading Chapter 4


Curriculum for Today

We’ve provided a group of educational resources below. We’ve listed them in an order that we hope will build on your understanding of concussions as you go through them.

Unit 3: Shaken Brain (~90 min)

  • Shaken Brain Chapter 4 (~45 min)

  • Prep for our discussion on Wednesday!

    • Questions will be sent out early Tuesday

  • Read Shaken Brain Chapter 5 (~45 min)

* Chapter 5 will be used for discussion the following week. No rush to read the chapter in one day, but read at your own pace to be prepared for discussion day.

Unit 5: Science Writing

  • Stanford Writing Course Week 2!

    • Do this at your own pace throughout the week, each lesson is separate (~2 hours total)
